Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Yolo County Integrated Regional Water Management Plan (IRWMP)?
The Yolo County Integrated Regional Water Management Plan will guide future water management improvements. The IRWMP identifies and prioritizes programs, policies, and projects to improve water resources management in Yolo County. The WRA based the IRWMP on a combination of information received through an extensive public process, technical analysis, and member agency input. The Water Resources Association of Yolo County (WRA) completed the IRWMP in April 2007. The IRWMP was formally adopted by the WRA in July 2007 after all of the WRA member agencies adopted the Plan.
Who will implement the IRWMP?
The WRA's member agencies will implement the IRWMP, with assistance from any groups interested in improving water resources management in Yolo County. The WRA's member agencies represent the entities in Yolo County authorized to purvey water.
Who will pay for implementation of the IRWMP?
The member agencies will use a variety of funding sources to implement the IRWMP, including funds from existing water rates. Member agencies will also pursue grant funding from the state and federal government, as well as private foundations. For example, California voters passed Proposition 50, the Water Security, Clean Drinking Water, Coastal and Beach Protection Act of 2002. It amended the California Water Code to add, among other articles, Section 79560 et seq., authorizing the Legislature to appropriate $500 million for projects associated with integrated regional water management planning efforts. The WRA will pursue this grant funding to implement high-priority programs, policies, and projects on behalf of the member agencies.
How can I participate in the IRWMP public process?
In addition to opportunities to comment online, the WRA hosted a series of public workshops in 2005-2006. Please see the Public Involvement section of this website.
